Tour Itinerary

1

Brown Lake

Brown Lake

Tucked inland, Brown Lake is a rare natural tea-tree lake renowned for its soothing, reddish-brown waters—tinted by tannins released from surrounding paperbark trees. Globally scarce, this type of lake is one of the few found on Australia’s east coast. Locals believe the tannin-rich waters have natural moisturizing properties, creating a serene, spa-like experience in the wild.

Also known as Bummeira to the Quandamooka people, the lake holds cultural significance, particularly for women’s ceremonies. Today, it’s a peaceful haven for swimming, relaxing, and picnicking. Its mildly acidic waters are inhospitable to fish, helping preserve its extraordinary clarity and calm.

2

Point Lookout

Point Lookout
Point Lookout

Perched high on the eastern cliffs, Point Lookout is one of Australia’s best whale-watching vantage points—especially from June to November, when humpback whales pass close by during their migration. Year-round, you can also spot dolphins, sea turtles, rays, and seabirds dancing in the surf.

Originally named by explorer Matthew Flinders in 1803, the site continues to hold sacred significance for the Quandamooka people. Today, the lookout blends dramatic coastal views with island life, with nearby cafés, galleries, and walking trails making it a perfect spot for both quiet reflection and vibrant local culture.

3

North Gorge Walk

North Gorge Walk
North Gorge Walk

The North Gorge Walk is a breathtaking 1.2 km cliff-top loop offering dramatic ocean views and up-close encounters with nature. Follow the boardwalk past sea caves, jagged cliffs, and blowholes—especially the famed “Gorge Roar”, where ocean swells surge through a narrow sea trench with thunderous power during high tide. It’s also one of the best spots on the island to observe marine life, especially during whale-watching season from June to November, when humpback whales can often be seen breaching just offshore.

Viewing platforms along the trail make it accessible for all ages and a favorite for photographers. Beyond the cliffs, watch for migrating whales, playful dolphins, and Eastern Grey Kangaroos, often seen grazing near the path or lazing in the shade of lookout points.

4

Main Beach

Main Beach
Main Beach

Stretching over 32 kilometers, Main Beach is a windswept paradise of golden sand and rolling surf. Facing the open sea, the waves here are bigger, making it a top pick for seasoned surfers. The vast openness also allows visitors to enjoy sunbathing, beach sports, and water activities. Additionally, there are designated areas for four-wheel drive vehicles, making it a popular spot for camping, fishing, and beach exploration.

Furthermore, Main Beach has historical significance as it was used as a training site by the Allied forces during World War II. Some sections of the beach still retain remnants of old military structures, adding a layer of historical depth to its beauty. The 4WD vehicle activity remains highly popular here, offering drivers a unique coastal adventure as they freely navigate the sandy beach with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean in the backdrop.

5

Amity Point

Amity Point

Tucked away on the island’s northwest tip, Amity Point is a peaceful fishing village that feels like stepping back in time. With calm, clear waters and frequent visits from wild dolphins, it’s a favorite for snorkeling, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).

Once a vital maritime hub in the 19th century for fishing, trade, and maritime activities. Amity still retains its slow coastal rhythm and local flavor. As the day ends, it transforms into one of the island’s most romantic sunset spots, where golden skies reflect off tranquil seas—a perfect place to unwind and watch the day fade.

ADDITIONAL TOUR OPTIONS:

Straddie Brewing Co

Straddie Brewing Co is a local craft brewery that brews unique beers using the island’s natural sand-filtered water, offering a taste of island life in every sip. The three-story brewery features an open bar, scenic terrace, and tasting room with up to 12 beer options, including classics like Point Lookout Lager and Amity Pale Ale.

The brewery also serves a share-style menu with locally sourced ingredients, such as lemon-spiced squid and smoked kangaroo meat. For a unique experience, visitors can enjoy the “Brewairy,” a flight tour that combines sightseeing with beer tasting, offering stunning views of the island before landing to continue the adventure.

Additional Tour Description

North Stradbroke Island, also known as “Minjerribah,” is a culturally rich destination, home to the Quandamooka people for thousands of years. Their sacred sites and traditions are still honored today. The island is a haven for nature lovers, offering stunning landscapes, including pristine coastlines and forests.

As one of Australia’s top whale-watching spots, visitors can witness humpback whale migrations from June to November. The island is also teeming with wildlife, including sea turtles, dolphins, kangaroos, and koalas, making it a perfect blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty.”
