Wild Dolphin Feeding

Each evening just after sunset, wild dolphins swim into the shallow waters of Tangalooma, creating a magical and unforgettable encounter. For over 30 years, this experience has been a highlight of the island, with a 99% attendance rate. While the dolphins come voluntarily, Tangalooma follows strict conservation guidelines — only 10–20% of each dolphin’s daily diet is offered, using high-fat herring to ensure they retain their natural hunting skills and independence.
Although weather, tides, and playful dolphin behavior can occasionally affect appearances, guests are almost always treated to this intimate, once-in-a-lifetime shoreline interaction. Watching these intelligent marine creatures feed in their natural habitat is as moving as it is memorable.

Additional Tour Description
Tangalooma’s story spans thousands of years, beginning with the Quandamooka people, the island’s Traditional Owners who lived in harmony with its land and waters, hunting and fishing sustainably. In the late 1800s, the island became a major whaling hub, with operations continuing until 1962.
After the end of whaling, Tangalooma transformed into a beloved holiday destination. One of its most iconic features — the Tangalooma Wrecks — consists of 15 ships intentionally sunk in 1963 to form a breakwall for the beach. Over time, these wrecks evolved into a thriving marine sanctuary and a top snorkeling and diving attraction, home to turtles, rays, and a dazzling variety of fish.
