Port Stephens

Early morning, your friendly guide will greet you at the hotel.

Head north from Sydney, through beautiful Central Coast, Port Stephens is approx. 3-hour from Sydney CBD by drive and is one of Sydneysiders’ favourite holiday destinations. The region consists of 26 magnificent beaches, its turquoise waters and rich ecological environment making it a heavenly natural habitat for dolphins and migrating humpback whales, earned its nickname “The Dolphin Capital of Australia”.

Dolphin or Whale Watching Cruise

No journey would be complete without a dolphin/whale watching at Australia’s dolphin capital. The waters around Port Stephens is home to more than 200 bottlenose dolphins. The cruise provides morning tea refreshments, while you spectate the playful dolphins swim swiftly in the water and the stunning harbour views, the guides onboard would educate visitors about fun facts on dolphins and the ecosystem in the surrounding waters. Want to get up and close with those cute creatures? Bring your own swimsuit and jump in the boom net (a rope net that floats on the surface of water). During June and October, thousands of Humpback and Minke whales migrate across the waters around Port Stephens, making it a prime spot for whale watching.

Holberts Oyster

Holberts Oyster Supplies is one of the largest oyster growing and processing establishments in Port Stephens. Over 5 generations, the Holberts family provides carefully nurtured Port Stephens oysters all year round being shucked fresh daily. Visitors can also watch professional shuckers at work at their Cromarty Bay waterfront factory outlet.

4WD & Sand Boarding

4WD Sand Dune Tour

In addition to its miles of impressive beaches, the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes is another highlight of Port Stephens. Hop on a four-wheel drive roaming around the sand dunes, part of the ancient heritage Worimi Conservation Lands. The area covers 4,200 hectares with the longest moving sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere which stretch 32 km. With slopes reaching 30-metre in height and up to 60 degrees, it is the perfect spot to experience the thrills of 4WD while enjoying the majestic scenery of the sand dunes and ocean in the distance.

Sand boarding

The four-wheel drive journey will bring you to the sandboarding facility situated in the heart of the Worimi Conservation protected area. Sit tight and slide down from gigantic sand dunes and experience adrenaline rushing through your body. Never have done Sandboarding before? It is easy to grasp even for first-timers and suitable for people of all ages, it is an excellent way to admire the natural beauty of Port Stephens.

Central Coast is situated north of Sydney, a short one-hour drive from Sydney CBD. It is a popular holiday spot thanks to its beautiful soft-sand beaches, azure water and sun-kissed weather. The Entrance is a great stop along the journey, pelican feeding takes places at the waterfront every Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 3:30 pm (15 mins) by local fish shops and the ocean-pool is a hot hang-out place during summer.

Port Stephens Winery and Murray’s Craft Brewing Co are located on the same site, so you can taste a wide range of beers and wine at your convenience. Port Stephen Winery is the oldest vineyard in the region, learn about its sophisticated winemaking process and grape varietals at the cellar door. Over at the brewery, taste a mixture of local craft beers, including Whale Ale, East Coast Larger and Dark Knight Porter amongst others. The Brewery Restaurant fills up your appetite with well-crafted gourmet menu.

Australian Reptile Park was established in 1948 by Australian naturalist Eric Worrell. Located on the Central Coast north of Sydney, as its name suggests, Australian Reptile Park displays one of the largest species of reptiles in Australia, such as: spiders, snakes, lizards, turtles and many more. In addition, you will also find lots of native Australian animals here, including: platypus, koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, Tasmanian Devils and etc. The Reptile Park offers interactive exhibits and playgrounds for children of all ages, even opportunities to have close encounters with animals, e.g. hand feed kangaroos and learn about in-house Venom Program.

Located on the peak of Gan Gan Hill, the lookout is 3.5 km from Nelson Bay and a great vantage point over Port Stephens, overlook Tomaree headlands, Stockton Bight sand dunes, the peninsula and Soldiers Point, Gan Gan Lookout is fantastic pit stop on your Port Stephen day tour. The panoramic views at sunrise and sunset are especially mesmerising. Carpark is very close to the lookout, making it very accessible.
