TOUR ITINERARY

1

Swansea

One of the prettiest seaside villages you’ll ever see, Swansea is a must-visit for any Tasmanian tour. This town is rich in both history and rustic hospitality, with friendly locals and intriguing historic buildings. Local attractions include Schouten House, Meredith House and Morris’s General Store, but if you venture a little out of town you can find some of Tasmania’s most revered wineries. Or pay a visit to the East Coast Heritage Museum at the Visitor Centre to learn about the history of the Eastern side of Tassie. The village is at its busiest over the summer months but even then, it retains its delightful small-town charm.

2

Kate’s Berry Farm

Take a seat in Kate’s Just Desserts Café and gaze in wonder at the rows upon rows of plump, juicy berries and uninterrupted views of Great Oyster Bay and Freycinet National Park. Kate’s berries are well-known for being perfectly grown in the cool Tasmanian climate and add a mouth-watering taste to the food lovingly prepared in her sweet café. Try some delightful produce including jams, jellies, ice-cream, chocolates and, for those of us who like a drop of the good stuff, some delicious dessert wines. The cherry on top is that Kate has a strict no fungicides, pesticides or harmful chemicals policy when it comes to nurturing her berries!

3

Wineglass Bay

Wineglass Bay is an extraordinary sight to behold. From the electric blue waters to the clean, white sands it’s easily one of the top beaches, not just in Australia, but in the entire world. Getting to Wineglass Bay takes just a short walk from the Coles Bay camping grounds, but involves an uphill hike through The Hazards, then a downhill walk to the beach itself. There are many other longer hikes available in the area, or you can indulge in a cruise around the bay or a relaxing picnic at the visitor centre near the entrance to the park. Whatever you do, don’t skip out on the walk to see the view from the Wineglass Bay Lookout. It’s stunning!

Freycinet National Park pass: $22.35 per person, free for children under 5 years old.

4

Honeymoon Bay

This bay is situated right in the middle of another bay (Coles Bay) and is a popular destination for birdwatching, snorkelling and summer time fun! Picnic-goers set up blankets on the grassy areas surrounding this rocky bay and enjoy a lovely day in the sun. Easily accessible, it’s quite close to the carpark, and nearby to amenities including restrooms. It’s the perfect place to settle in and watch a stunning sunset after a day of beach walks or a dip in the cool water. Bring your special someone along with a bottle of sparkling and enjoy a romantic, relaxing setting. It’s definitely called Honeymoon Bay for a reason…

ADDITIONAL TOUR OPTIONS:

“Bringing the pristine tastes and stories of the unique seas of Tasmania to life” this marine farm produces some of the best seafood in Tasmania, and quite possibly the world! Stop in at the renowned East Coast Eatery and indulge in some Pacific Oysters, Tasmania Blue Mussels, Atlantic Salmon, Rock Lobster (that song is going to stuck in your head all day now) and many more oceanic delights! Once you’re done with a delicious lunch, you can take an intriguing tour of the farm in all its seaside glory.

As mentioned above, Coles Bay is the larger bay that encompasses Honeymoon Bay. Overlooked by sheer pink granite mountains, the calm, gleaming water of this bay is home to many native aquatic animals. With sprawling beaches that are rarely ever crowded, this is the perfect Tasmanian tour escape. Kayaking, fishing, boating and swimming are all popular activities with the locals. If you were looking to explore Freycinet National Park, you’ve come to the right place. Coles Bay is the perfect starting point for a trek into the wilderness of the park.

Constructed in 1971, this 11m tall automatic lighthouse reaches a staggering 51,856m out into the vast expanse of the ocean, warning ships of the coastline. Just a short drive from Coles Bay with wheelchair access and plenty of parking, it’s an easy addition to any Tasmanian tour itinerary. Take a walk around the 600m circuit to see some amazing views of the East Coast of Tassie and the stunning Freycinet National Park. The lookout located at the lighthouse is a great alternative for people who may not be able to make it to the Wineglass Bay Lookout.
