Australia Zoo

Australia Zoo, founded by the legendary Steve Irwin, is a world-renowned wildlife park offering an unforgettable experience with Australia’s unique animal kingdom. It all began in 1970 as the Beerwah Reptile Park, a small family-run wildlife facility started by Steve’s parents. Steve officially took over in 1991, bringing his passion and vision for conservation to life. In 1998, the park was renamed Australia Zoo, marking its transformation into a global wildlife destination.

Famous for its thrilling crocodile shows, the zoo lets you get up close with over 1,200 animals—from cuddling koalas and hand-feeding kangaroos to spotting tigers and exploring world-class exhibits. Steve Irwin, known worldwide as “The Crocodile Hunter,” brought international fame to the zoo through his groundbreaking wildlife documentaries and fearless advocacy for animal welfare.

Since 1999, Australia Zoo has received numerous awards for excellence in tourism, conservation, and sustainability, recognizing its commitment to both unforgettable visitor experiences and the protection of wildlife.

Today, the zoo remains proudly run by the Irwin family, continuing Steve’s powerful legacy through hands-on encounters, education, and global conservation initiatives. It’s more than just a zoo—it’s a journey into the wild with heart and purpose.

Glass House Mountains Lookout

Glass House Mountains Lookout
Glass House Mountains Lookout

Tucked away in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the Glass House Mountains Lookout offers sweeping 360° views of one of Queensland’s most iconic natural wonders. These striking volcanic peaks, rising sharply from the surrounding plains, are listed on both the Queensland and National Heritage Registers for their geological, cultural, and spiritual significance.

Formed over 25 million years ago, the mountains hold deep importance to the Gubbi Gubbi people, who regard them as sacred sites woven into Dreamtime stories. They were named by Captain James Cook in 1770, who thought the sharp peaks resembled the glassmaking furnaces (or “glasshouses”) of his native Yorkshire, England.

Today, the lookout is a favourite stop for photographers, hikers, and travellers looking to soak in some of the region’s most dramatic natural scenery.
